On the 6th January 2020 an 80 year old gentleman phoned the Lonsdale Dental Practice and requested a dental appointment because he was experiencing pain from one of his teeth. The receptionist informed him the earliest available appointment was the following Thursday the 9th January but he would have to pay an upfront registration fee of £75 because he wasn't registered with the practice adding that he could complete the requisite document when he arrived. However, she failed to mention they would require 48 hours notice if it became necessary to cancel the appointment.
By the following day the pain had increased and he endeavoured to arrange an earlier appointment with an alternative dentist and succeeded in doing so for Wednesday the 8th January. He then phoned the Lonsdale Dental Practice on a couple of occasions to cancel their Thursday appointment without success but did manage to leave a message on their answering service. He also emailed the practice explaining that he no longer needed their services and requested the return of his upfront payment of £75.
Early on Thursday morning he phoned Lonsdale Dental Practice to ensure they had received his notice of cancellation and to enquire how they intended to refund his £75 . The receptionist confirmed receipt of both the message left on the answering service and his email but the Practice Manager had decided not to refund the £75 because it didn’t comply with their terms and conditions insofar as they required 48 hours notice of cancellation.
This was particularly disappointing because so much effort had gone in to cancel the said appointment within the available time frame. As a consequence it was decided to investigate if anyone else had crossed paths with the management at this dental practice and had subsequently regretted doing so.

Latest Complaint ... I chanced upon this website when I was researching a history of complaints and grievances via Google concerning a dentist known as Dr Barry Rimmer. We first crossed paths some years ago in Wigan, Lancashire where he caused me a lot of stress and pain when wrongly diagnosing a gum infection. Clearly he is still up to his old tricks!
Complaint #2 ... Briefly, the treatment was appalling my dentist stated that I needed a filling which came out after 6 hrs. Made repeated calls to the surgery but was not able to be seen by my dentist, staff told me they would ring me back. This never happened, I have been left with a hole in my tooth and the staff didn’t seem to care.
Complaint #3 ... My tooth was filled with white filling which was left rough on the surface and the front of the tooth. At the follow up appointment the filling was repaired and polished. Instead of apologising as I couldn't eat or even speak properly with the original filling, the dentist held a conversation about dieting with the assistant while he treated me, I felt totally irrelevant.
Complaint #4 ... Treatment at this dentist has never been great, but my last visit was the final straw. Arranged an emergency appointment due to severe tooth pain, dentist grumbled at length that reception had booked me in when they shouldn't have. He poked around, took an xray and said that it was just sensitive teeth. So disappointed I changed dentists after a week in agony. They quickly informed me I needed root canal surgery, problem solved. Furthermore, they were critical of the work that the previous dentist had done. In particular, fillings layered on top of old fillings.
Complaint #5 ... Avoid this dentist like the plague, the quality of treatment I and my partner have received from them has been very poor, uncaring and shoddy. There is a much better dentist nearby.
Complaint #6 ... Visited this dentist with an infection in a back tooth. As I'm on chemotherapy it was a big deal as I've little resistance to infections as I made very clear to the practice. The dentist failed to extract tooth saying it was a difficult one but, he left me with an open wound to the bone, and unable to close my mouth due to his half-way extraction of the tooth. If I hadn't gone straight to A&E off my own bat I'd be dead now.
